Vitesse started in 1989 when Richard Smith founded the firm in Wyszogrod to produce cycle clothing. Starting with just 3 sewing machines, a transfer press and a few hundred Deutschmarks the firm initially faced tremendous difficulties. However, after years of struggle, Vitesse has prospered and today employs some 60 people.
In the mid 70's Richard was a member of Britain's 4000m junior pursuit squad and in the 80's rode in the professional peleton in Belgium and Holland
Having started Vitesse at the end of the 80's Richard found the early years just as hard going as racing on Belgian cobble stones. However perseverance paid off and Vitesse found major customers in Europe, but became primarily a producer for other brands and was only well known as Vitesse inside Poland. After a restructure in 2003 the firm was renamed Vitesse Sportswear Sp. z o.o. And moved to bigger premises. The entry of Poland into the EU in 2004 removed many of the barriers holding back Polish export firms and today, after having invested heavily in digital technology, Vitesse is well placed to become a well known brand in it's own right in the European market.
